"Overweight Forerunner"

My Forerunner (soon to be renamed "Miss Piggy") has ballooned up to 76 ounces, after bring it home in pieces several times. I don't think that the current Magnum Pro 45 is now up to the task. I have two options: either my Tom Lay ST51 or my Tom Lay ST60. I am sure that the ST60 is up to the task, but not sure about the ST51. Any thoughts?

Yep sometimes it just better to hang them up.

That is what I did with my PIG Twistang.

Or you could start drilling holes in it.....

If you are talking about the 550 square inch Forerunner it is to heavy,I would consider 76 ounces boarder line if it is the 650 square inch Forerunner.

Hi Tom,
I have a kit of the Forerunner, and it must be the 550 sq.in. version. Wasn't aware that there was a larger version, Did you ever publish either design in the mags? Would like to look up the larger version is so.
Thanks a lot,
Dan McEntee

Tom -

Unfortunately, it is the 550 version. What is the upper weight limit that this size could carry?

The Forerunner 550 will fly well at 48oz. fp35/40,la 40/46,tiger46,os35s,McCoy 35/40 red head,Fox35, will work very well if in good shape. The FR 660 has not been kitted,if there is enough interest,a short kit and plans would be possible.

Every Forerunner I've seen flies quite well. Although yours is heavy, you may be surprised, particularly if you're not at high altitude, just how well it will still fly.

Also, the ST .51, properly prepared, has bags of power.

Don't make assumptions until you actually fly it.

Larry -

Thanks for the encouragement. I reweighed the plane without tank, engine, prop and spinner. The plane came in at 48/49 ounces. I am going to put the ST51 on it and give it a go.

At 49 oz the wing loading is about 12.9 oz/sq ft heavy, but not ridicuous. With all gear probably about 20oz more around 18oz/ sq ft which is hanger queen time.

You could put a tuned pipe on it running above the wing. More power, exhaust not in your face, and if a metal pipe a good carry handle(after cooling).

Hi Larry. Thanks for the kind words on SS. Be sure to read my response to Darwin Ulledahl. I am still working 80 hour weeks in an effort to help everyone. Since Greenaway died, and Frank Bowman quit doing reworks because he got fed up with customers bad attitudes. So I'm about the only one left doing Super Tigres, and I guarantee you that I won't do any more for Ulledahl!!
LAYter,

To Darwin Ulledahl, from Tom Lay. I saw your VERY NEGATIVE COMMENT on Stuka Stunt. Everything you stated was incorrect. 1. You sent me 3 motors in May, 2009 NOT A YEAR AGO! 2. I reworked one motor and returned it and a muffler in less than 30 days, on May 30th, 2009.
3. I got an email from you in June saying, NO HURRY ON THE OTHER 2 MOTORS, BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO FLY THEM IN ANYWAY.
4. I mailed your 2 other completed T&L motors last Saturday Feb. 6th.
5. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DON'T USE THE FINE STUKA STUNT FORUM TO SLANDER OTHER PEOPLE, AND WITH INCORRECT, INCOMPLETE, DETAILS!!!
And by the way please find yourself someone else to rework your motors in the future!
Sincerely Tom Lay, T&L Specialties

Speaking from 1st hand experience I find the wait well worth it. One thing is certain, it is not like yours is the ONLY engine that Tom is doing.
